“The most horrific period in history has finally come to an end”, wrote Richard Strauss at the end of World War II. The ‘Metamorphosen’, composed during the darkest days, are his personal reflection on the total destruction that resulted from the war. From a musical point of view, this work marks a turning point: we are not used to such dark and above all intimate sound combinations from him.
Intense, raw emotions also play a central role in Raminta Serksnyte’s work. ‘De Profundis’ combined the post-romantic tragedy of Strauss with the sound worlds of jazz, minimalism and the avant-garde. In the music of Wim Henderickx and Vladimir Martynov, the Grim Reaper is lurking just around the corner, which for them is an opportunity for meditation and silence.
Reflections on life and death that will leave no one unmoved.
With Peter Bogaert, violin soloist in Vladimir Martynov’s Come In!, and visuals by Geert Lenssens.
At this concert Boho Strings will also present its first CD – “Nostalgia” – released on Antarctica Records, and entirely dedicated to the music of Belgian composer Wim Henderickx. Please join artistic director David Ramael and Wim Henderickx after the concert for an exclusive signing session.
